Default moms of toddlers aged 2-3

Just thought I would start a new group of moms with toddlers around age 2-3. My son is not yet 2, but he's almost there and I notice a very big difference between him and kids that are around 7 months+ younger then him.

a couple of questions to get us started....

how old is your child?
girl or boy?
have you started potty training? what age?
did your child go through the terrible twos?

that's all for now.

Great idea C

Cameron turned 2 in March. She is a girl despite the name/spelling. She started potty training herself several months ago but Mommy has been very lazy with it. The terrible twos don't even begin to describe what we are going through here. I find her on the kitchen counter countless times a day. When things don't go EXACTLY the way she thinks they should she flings herself on the floor in a crying rage. When I say "yes" she says "no" and when I say "no" she says "jess".
BUT, then, several times a day she will come up to me with the sweetest smile and throw her arms around my neck for a huge hug and it makes it all worth it.

My little guy is (just about) 22 months. We have not started potty training, although we've had a potty sitting around for about 6 months which he has gone on a few times. He is very familiar with it, knows what you are supposed to do, and seems like he is getting closer to being ready. I just bought one of the little potty seats you put on the regular toilet so we will be trying that soon. I think sometimes we are in the terrible twos, sometimes not. He is generally a VERY sweet child, but definitely has a bratty side and is not the best at sharing. He often likes to take whatever toy someone else is playing with.

Of course, Nicole. I didn't mean to leave anyone out, it is just that I notice a big difference between the kids around the same age as my son (20 months is definitely close enough!) and kids who are about 6-7+ months younger. There seems to be a big developmental growth spurt in that time frame.

We haven't formerly started potty training but he has taken the initiative as we are "trying" to potty train our stubborn 3 year old. He insists on sitting on the potty. He was so insistant that we bought him his very own potty. He sits on it every time big brother does and often comes to me to tell me that he wants to sit on it. He hasn't peed in it yet but likes to pee on it-not so much fun for mommy who gets to clean it up.

Oh boy!!! He is waaaay into it. He just loves to throw things. Anything and eveything. It's very frustrating and now he has taught older brother to throw things which is even more frustrating. He also has terrible tantrums. Most of the time they are short and he'll want me to pick him up. He likes to bang his head when he gets angry too. This has tapered off since he hit it REALLY hard on a flower pot. He also used to hit but I think that behavior has been nipped in the bud. He knows if he hits us, he gets put down (he usually hits when we hold him). The list is loooooooooong.

my chaty is just over 2 1/2 yrs old now (whoa, time flies....)
she is a girl
we began potty training months ago which was a joke, she knew what to do but refused to do it ( i guess because i wanted her to, you know)
she would pee in the potty a few times but refuse to go #2, and several times would sit on the potty for 5-10 min & then get off & go poo right next to the potty on the floor?! do not know what was up with that, but when SHE was ready, it took just afew days. it is a lot of work for the mom:watching for the cues and rushing off to the potty only to have 4-5 false alarms during the day and a few more accidents, but believe me when they are ready it is cake. she has been in big girl panties for almost 4 weeks now with only 4 accidents, i only put her in pull ups at night...what a relief only 1 in diapers ( i have a 6 month old as well), 1 tip: once you go to underwear do not go back to diapers or pull ups. stick with it or give up & try again at another time. switching just confuses them more.
you mean the terrible 1 1/2's, when she started her "independence movement" (what i call it) at about 15-16 months i thought if this is not the terrible 2's i am in big trouble...haha
it is getting better as her vocabulary is ever expanding beyond, "i do not want to do that" but everyone has their days (including me) and we will see how things change in aug when she attends school for the first time...

I can relate to this! My daughter will be 16 months in a week and she is one high spirited little banshee. We wonder what is in store for us as the year progresses.

Jessica, with my son I've noticed he has actually gotten better since he was Josilyn's age. Once he was able to communicate/talk to me and tell me what he wanted, how he was feeling, etc. - things got much easier. He is also a very spirited child (maybe we should start a thread on that too?!?). I am just amazed every day how he is able to communicate with me. Our biggest battle right now is bedtime. He just wants to stay up later and later all the time, but still wakes up at 7 a.m.

What time are your kids going to bed these days? What time do they wake up? How are they napping - when and for how long?

C ~ I can see the same happening in our neck of the woods as well ... really in a LOT of ways she is easier to handle since she could walk, sign, communicate (in ways other than talking) to us as to what she wants. The high spiritedness was the death of me before she could walk it was like she absoutely hated life until she could be free to knock about.
