Default Room temp at night?

This is seriously our first winter not co-sleeping. We've always kept the house pretty cool because G was sandwiched in bed with us. G refuses to sleep in pj's (the child strips if I force him in them), and he uncovers himself a lot at night -- he crawled into our bed last night, and he was seriously COLD (with the house temp at 72). T's hands were also little ice cubes. Their rooms seem to be a little colder than the rest of the house, but I'd feel insane keeping the heat much higher. I totally want the boys to be comfortable (and I'd prefer not to have a human ice block climbing into bed with me to get warm), but I can't decide when to make that cut-off of "wear clothes or freeze".

What temp do you keep your house at during the night?

Do you shut their bedroom doors? We keep our house around 72 in the winter. Their rooms are cooler than the rest of the house, and my dad pointed out that it is b/c we close their bedroom doors at night. Some time ago, Nicole requested that we keep her door cracked, and that helped circulate the air. Now I crack Ella's door before I go to bed - we keep her door closed while I am still up b/c the girl wakes up if she hears the teeniest of sounds. Cracking the door a few inches really seems to help get a little bit more warm air in there.

68. If that feels too cold I'll have it 69 just to kick the heater on for one cycle and then change it back to 68. J's room is warm due to sun shining in all day so it is warmer in there than in our room at night. She keeps blankets on and wears long sleeved pjs with pants and socks. She must be fine as she insists on having her ceiling fan on (very low). She says she loves to be cold. Just like us though honestly hence the 68.

Currently we have the heat set at around 68 or 69 at night, which is a little chilly for me, but M will still snuggle with me under the covers, though, so I don't mind too much. A's room gets *really* warm at night (well, all the time) and he won't get under the covers. Dh sleeps with him in there, and he wakes up sweating if it's any warmer than 69 on the thermostat.

Our thermostat doesn't really ever go above 62. I feel like perhaps we're being cruel and unusual seeing as how most everyone else keeps theirs about 10 degrees higher.

The kids room gets sun all day so it stays warmer, not to mention that we have high ceilings and an open floor plan downstairs so the upstairs is always warmer. Even with warm jammies and staying somewhat covered I get ice cubes in the middle of the night. I need to get him into socks at night. We do keep their door cracked at night. Something else we do as the weather gets cooler(we're not expecting snow till December) we use black out curtains to help keep the heat in. We prefer them to the plastic because we can still open the windows as needed.

Something I did for my kids in my last house that was drafty, was in their room at night(and the bathroom at bath time) I would set up the space heater. I'd run it before bed so it'd be toasty and turn it on again after they went to sleep but before I went to bed and off again at my bed time. It kept the chill at bay.

If you're still getting up to feed T then maybe you could run it during feedings too. Ours is tiny, just a little cube of a thing but works well.

We keep ours at 72 as well. B REFUSES to stay covered up, so I finally got him a pair of microfleece footed pj's at Old Navy and he sleeps in those and is fine.

Kinda off topic, anyone else notice how, some nights 72 feels like it is so cold in the house and other nights, it is WAY WARM? J says it has to do with the humidity outside (remember, we are in the land of cotton here and have humidity 10 months out of the year!). I just find it odd, how - without changing the thermostat, some nights I run around in shorts and some nights I am in sweat pants!

It's the same here. Some days and nights I'm fine, others I'm in sweats and using a throw blanket sitting on the couch. So odd.

Well, I'm feeling a bit better. 72 usually feels cool in our house (which is comfortable for us when we're under covers -- some nights, it's HOT at 72 though). T's door is shut (night light in the hall... he wakes up if he sees it), but G's is open.

G would be a nudist if he could. I'm just happy he keeps undies on. I'll probably leave it at 72 and add a layer for T. G can just be cold until he realizes that pj's aren't evil.

I keep mine 68-72. E wears PJ's but he kicks his cover off constantly, plus the low toddler bed makes it cooler.
A space heater is a good idea, they have the cool touch ones that are safe for kiddies to be around.
D....I have noticed that too. It drives me nuts. I would love to set my thermostat to one freakin' temp and leave it there. Mine is up and down, windows open and closed, robe on and off...

We do about 68 or so at night. I find when we are sick(coughing) it feels better to have it cooler. The heat just dries us out. Now in Jan. or Feb. when it is below zero I will crank it up to about 72-74. I hate being cold but that heating bill gets very costly up here. We have to run heat day and night.
