Question My Child's Name

How did you come up with your child(ren)'s name? Are they named after someone special? What is the meaning behind it? Is it short for something else?

ETA: Have we had this conversation before? Just came to mind as I was cruising through some of the journals! If so, I guess we can talk about it again!

I wanted to name B Brent Andrew but DH didn't like it so we couldn't decide. While he was watching football one night, I heard them talking about Brett Favre -- and I said, Hey - I kinda like that name...I might consider it. NOT that I am a fan of Brett Favre or football in general, I just semi liked the name and after a lot of convincing from BabyTalkers friends, I caved and gave into it!
B's middle name is my maiden name. Totally DH's idea - I really didn't want to use it, but again, after many posts and IRL friends weighed in...I caved again! SO, I suppose you could say that hubby AND MOST OF YOU named my child!!

This is in the public section, right? So forgive me for being somewhat cryptic.

A & M's first names are just names that we liked. I believe I came up with both of them, and each was on our list for a couple years before each of them was born. M came very close to being named Luca, but the popularity of Luke and Lucas turned us both off (as well as Luca and Lucca often being used on girls). There were something like 20,000 Luke/Luka/Luca/Lucas/Lukases born last year! We still all love the name, though.

Of course, now we have a theme going...same number of letters and related to nature (we didn't know of the nature connection with A's name until later). Additionally, their middle names have special meaning. One has my grandfather's name, and the other has the name of an important person in dh's life.

Yep- didn't think about that! I edited mine a bit... Sorry! Well, we can still share our stories without discussing actual names

G's name happened before DH and I were even married. His little brother said he thought it was a "dumb name" and we both chimed in that we liked it. It obviously stuck because we never questioned it (BIL has since changed his story on the name). We pulled his middle name from The Giver.

T's name... I heard it and loved it. However, DH took some convincing, and we went back and forth on names FOREVER (were still debating his name in the hospital -- he was almost Caleb... he's NOT a Caleb ). His middle name is DH's brother's name.

LMAO - that is SO how I feel.

Jett is so not a Gavin, Talan, Cale, Zane or whatever other names we were considering.

Jax and Jett are just names that we like. I tried so hard to steer away from another "J" name, but I couldn't help myself. It was mine, DH's and DS1's favorite. It suits him so well.....although he literally only goes by "Jetty" to pretty much EVERYONE. HA!

J's name is a take on a family name on DH's side. His middle name is DH's middle name.

L was just a name we liked. DH found it in a baby name book but under the boys names. Her middle name is my mom's middle name.

M is named after my grandmother and L is named after DH's grandfather. There was already a few William's in the family so we went with a version of it.

Did any of you have names picked if you had a child of the opposite gender?
M would have probably been Michael and L would have been Emma.

G probably would have been Madison, and T would have been either Eliana or Sidney (we were really indecisive with names... ).
